Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), state and local governments, businesses, and nonprofit organizations that serve the public are generally required to allow service dogs to accompany individuals with disabilities in all areas where the public is permitted. Staff are allowed to ask only two questions to verify the service animal: (1) Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability? and (2) What work or task has the dog been trained to perform?
